Milan City Map

The core of Milan is the cathedral square or Piazza Duomo, with its spectacular cathedral or Duomo. Walking Milan’s city streets is a delightful experience and the Duomo is the best starting point for any walking experience in Milan. South of the Duomo is the Milan Tourist Office where you can obtain information about whats happening in Milan. North of the Duomo is Gallerie Vittorio Emanuele II. This 19th century covered double arcade is one of the most beautiful covered malls in Europe. It was the first of its kind to make use of iron and glass in a structure of this size. Milan is style city and Milan’s high end shopping district is highlighted on our STREETWISE® Milan street map. This mecca of designer labels is bounded by Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga, Corso Venezia and Via Monte Napoleone. Here you will find the original high fashion stores by Armani, Dolce & Gabana, Ferré, Valentino, Versace and Zegna. With its tributaries of tiny streets and alleyways the via Monte Napoleone is one of the most elegant streets in Milan.
North of the Duomo is Parco Sempione which contains the Sforza Castle and Palazzo dell’Arte. The Castle contains museums and libraries. Particularly noteworthy is the Pinacoteca Art Gallery containing old master paintings, and the Museo d’Arte Antica with sculptures from the Middle Ages.
No trip to Milan could be complete without a visit to view Leonardo daVinci’s “The Last Supper” painting which resides in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church. Pre-purchase of tickets is mandatory because demand is high to see da Vinci’s best and last work of art. The church is west of the downtown Milan and you’ll see on the STREETWISE® Milan city map that the metro line 1 will take you very close to the church.
Milan cool is down along the Darsena or basin. South of Milan city center. The Sant’Ambrogio district and its gentrifying old port area is host to a number of trendy restaurants, cafes and hotels.
The area outside the Bastioni is more contemporary and its outer boundary is called the Circonvailazione Esterna represented as part of the STREETWISE® Milan area inset map which includes major roads into and out of Milan with the Milan metro map overlaid on the street grid.
Italians are justly proud of their product designs and they are not shy about displaying their talents. The Palazzo dell’Arte is located in the Parco Sempione. The Triennale of Milan, based in the Palazzo dell’Arte, has been a design mecca for Italians since 1923. It provides a year round exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts. The old fairgrounds site, called Fieramilanocity, still has a number of functioning pavilions, hosting light fairs and congresses and is located northwest of the city center.
