BA is very neighborhood oriented. The eastern most  is La Boca home of the Boca Juniors soccer stadium and the Caminito district dominated by curio shops colored corrugated buildings and fake tango dancers.  There is no metro to La Boca but taxis are cheap in BA so that is the option for a quick visit. There is a taxi stand in the district near the Vuelta de Rocha, identified by taxi icon on the STREETWISE® Buenos Aires map. La Boca is a bit touristy so if time is limited and you do not intend to see the Boca Juniors team in action skipping this section of town is no major disappointment. San Telmo  on the other hand is fun  and embodies more the  bohemian culture of artists and tango dancers. The little neighborhood called Las Canitas just south of Palermo Hollywood is nice place for a walk and it has some good restaurants and shops. On a rainy day, take the orange subway line and exit at Carlos Gardel station where you’ll find the large indoor Abasto shopping mall and a few blocks away is the Carlos Gardel Museum a funky place celebrating the life of the Argentina’s famous Tango artist.

Buenos Aires is a great walking city. But there are times when riding is better than walking  When your hotel is located in the Microcenter and you want to have lunch around the Plaza Serrano you can either take a taxi which are cheap by US standards or by subway. Buenos Aires has a decent subway system and taking the subway D line will get you from downtown to the hip western neighborhoods in no time.
