Amsterdam's red light district, the Rossebuurt, is famed for its brothels and adult shops all situated along winding narrow cobbled streets amidst wonderful 14th century architecture. Here is where Amsterdam prides itself on its wholly liberal and tolerant attitude toward prostitution and drugs. Instead of criminalizing these human activities, the Dutch let the criminals run and profit from the vice markets. Make no mistake about this neighborhood, It’s a stink hole of vermin overseen by Russian and Chechen gangsters who traffic in international sex slaves and drug markets. Long gone are the cute Dutch girls sitting in windows beckoning customers into their safe retail living quarters. All you find now are exploited girls from all over eastern Europe forced to work in miserable conditions. The drug addicts staggering around and vomiting on the streets add more to the foreboding atmosphere of Amsterdams liberal red light district. If you wish to wander the streets and visit Oudekerk or Old Church visit in the morning after the streets have been washed.
Like all STREETWISE® maps, we instill confidence, knowledge and adventure in travel. Our Amsterdam street map is a fine example.
